Diamond Lattice Bedspread

This is a simple blanket made up of DC and chain stitches that even a beginner can create.

Materials

5.50 mm crochet hook

Any yarn you desire. I have made this with both bulky and worsted weight. How much you need will depend on how big of a blanket you want to make. I used about 4.5 Red Heart Jumbo Super Saver skeins to make one that fully covers a queen bed and covers the top of a king.

Gauge

When using worsted weight with a 5.5 mm hook, the gauge should be about 9.25 inches long and 6.5 inches tall for a repeat section. (See diagram for repeat design). Gauge size will vary depending upon size of hook and yarn you use. Be sure to make a swatch to test your gauge.

Bed Sizing

Below is a list of basic bed measurements to help you determine just how many repeats you may need for the width of your bedspread. These sizes are big enough for a good amount of overhand on the sides.

Twin – 60 inches wide x 90 inches tall

Queen – 90 inches wide x 90 inches tall

King – 110 inches wide x 100 inches tall

DC – Double Crochet

Hdc – Half Double Crochet

Other notes before getting started:

The beginning ch 3 of each row counts as a DC.

The first and last DC of each row are your “edges” and are NOT a part of the repeat pattern.

Chain multiples of 28 + 8

Row 1: DC in 9th chain from hook. DC in next 10 chains. *Ch 3, skip 3 chains, DC in next 11 chains.* Repeat from * to * until you reach the last 3 chains. Ch 2, skip 2 chains, DC in final chain. Turn.

Row 2: Ch 3. DC in ch 2 space. *Ch 2, skip 1 DC, DC in next 9 DC, Ch 2, skip next DC, DC in ch 3 space.* Repeat from * to * until you reach the last ch 2 space. Ch 2. Skip next DC, DC in ch 2 space, DC in 3rd chain from the beginning chain 3. Turn.

Row 3: Ch 3. DC in next DC and in ch 2 space. *Ch 2, Skip 1 DC, DC in next 7 DC. Ch 2, skip next DC, DC in ch 2 space, DC in next DC, DC in ch 2 space.* Repeat from * to * until you reach the last ch 2 space. Ch 2. Skip next DC. DC in ch 2 space. DC in next DC and in top chain of ch 3. Turn.

Row 9: Ch 3. DC in next 4 DC. *Ch 2, skip next DC, DC in ch 2 space, DC in DC, DC in ch 2 space. Ch 2, skip next DC, DC in next 7 DC.* Repeat from * to* to final 6 DC. Ch 2, skip next DC, DC in next 4 DC and in top of beginning ch 3. Turn.

Row 10: Ch 3. DC in next 3 DC. *Ch 2, skip next DC, DC in ch 2 space, DC in next 3 DC, DC in ch 2 space. Ch 2, skip next DC, SC in next 5 DC.* Repeat from * to * to last 5 DC. Ch 2, skip next DC, DC in next 3 DC and in top of beginning ch 3. Turn.

Row 11: Ch 3. DC in next 2 DC. *Ch 2, skip next DC, DC in ch 2 space, DC in next 5 DC, DC in ch 2 space. Ch 2, skip next DC, DC in next 3 DC.* Repeat from * to * to final 4 DC. Ch 2, skip next DC, DC in next 2 DC and in top of beginning ch 3. Turn.

Row 12: Ch 3. DC in next DC. *Ch 2, skip next DC, DC in ch 2 space, DC in next 7 DC, DC in ch 2 space. Ch 2, skip next DC, DC in next DC, skip next DC.* Repeat from * to * to final 3 DC. Ch 2, skip next DC, DC in next DC and in top of beginning ch 3. Turn.

Repeat rows 1-12 for however long you want your bedspread to be. You will want to end on a row 1 to make it symmetrical on both ends.

BORDER

A border is optional, but I do think that it helps the long edges keep form. I used a single row of Hdc around the entire edge, placing 1 Hdc in each DC, and 2 Hdc in each ch 3 space along the top and bottom, and 2 Hdc in each row along the sides.
