This is a very simple blanket if you can do corner-to-corner (C2C). I absolutely despise sewing pieces together, so I created mine as a join-as-you-go. I am not giving the directions on how to do that here just yet, as I need to make a video showing exactly how it was done. But if you are already experienced in JAYG for C2C blocks… then have it! Otherwise, leave long strands after you fasten off your greys and black so that you can sew your blocks together.
Below are two charts. The first chart is for the basic block pattern. The second is to see how the blocks are joined. I cannot tell you exactly how much yarn is used since it will depend on the size of your blanket, and quite frankly, I lost track of how many skeins I bought along the way, since I kept letting it grow as I went. I would suggest at least two 7 oz. skeins for each of the inner colors of your blocks, and at least two 7 oz skeins of your greys and four of your black; but it will all depend on how big your plan to make it.
I did not add a border to mine, as I did not want to distract from the pattern. If you do choose to, I would suggest using black and making it as thick as 4 rows of DC. But that is merely a suggestion.
The materials I used were a size H hook and worsted weight yarn. My blanket is 6 blocks across and 6 blocks tall. This size gives adequate coverage for a queen bed, with a little bit of overhang on the sides.
If you have any questions regarding the pattern, feel free to email me @ Jensyarncloset@gmail.com. And hopefully in the very near future I will have a video tutorial on the join as you go method for these blocks.
